Even though he was a king and had great material blessings, Ahab went to his room and pouted when he was not able to buy a vineyard that he coveted. “So Ahab went into his house sullen and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no food.” (1 Kings 21:4 NKJV) We have a strong warning from Jesus about letting material items become too important to us. “And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” (Luke 12:15 NKJV)
