Solomon had been given riches beyond compare, but he found out that all things on this earth are worthless.  “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2)  Paul encourages us to not let the things of this life get in the way of our focus on our eternal life.  “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18)  Jesus warned us to not let the riches of this world get in the way of our serving God.  “And Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.’” (Matthew 19:23-24)
