2023 Day 143 – 2 Samuel 24; 1 Chronicles 21-22; Psalm 30
God’s Word records several mistakes that David made in his life. Also recorded is evidence of his penitent heart. “And David said to God, ‘I have sinned greatly in that I have done this thing. But now, please take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.’” (1 Chronicles 21:8) He did not want everyone else to have to suffer because of his own sin. “And David said to God, ‘Was it not I who gave command to number the people? It is I who have sinned and done great evil. But these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O LORD my God, be against me and against my father’s house. But do not let the plague be on your people.’” (1 Chronicles 21:17) God has made a promise to all of His children if we also will admit our sins before Him. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
