We all live our lives in the way we think is best for us. Solomon tells us that we should be willing to listen to words that might help us live an even better life. “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.” (Proverbs 12:15) The source of that advice is most important. What better place to search for guidance that the inspired word of God. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,” (2 Timothy 3:16) Knowing God’s desire for us is important, but matching our actions to that knowledge is even more important. “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” (James 1:22) We should be daily looking to God’s word and striving to make our lives match that Perfect Example.
