2020 Day 114 – Genesis 13-14 and Psalms 114

Abram and his nephew Lot moved to another land as God had commanded. They had more livestock than could be supported in one area, so Abram gave his nephew the choice of which area to take. “Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.” (Genesis 13:9 NKJV) But Lot’s choice was was a selfish one and did not consider the evil that he would be moving toward (Sodom and Gomorrah). “And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar. Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other.” (Genesis 13:10-11 NKJV) Lot’s heart was in the wrong place. One verse in the longest chapter reminds us where our hearts should be focusing. “Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!” (Psalms 119:36 ESV)
