2020 Day 34 – John 7-8 and Psalms 34

Scribes and Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery.  They questioned Him on whether or not they should stone her as punishment.  “So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” (John 8:7)  This was not the only time that Jesus warned about looking too hard at other people’s sins and missing our own.  “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7:3-5)  But it is our Christian duty to help that sinning person get back on track.  “Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1)
